Left from USU and went to Smithfield on 1200E; past 5000N to Pebble Creek Road and then back. Got lost in Smithfield and so had some backtracking to do. Then a friendly Golden Labrador adopted me for 1.5 miles and so had to stop at a house in N. Hyde Park and call owner - was waiting outside for him for 15 mins, so was stopped for 20 mins. Got really cold - in fact it felt brutally cold all the time. Then a couple stopped me to ask for directions - I thought of begging them to let me sit in their car to warm up.

It's been a disappointing week mileage wise. In part due to (i) poor air at the start of the week and (ii) spending all afternoon yesterday trying to unblock a drain at home which meant I didn't run. But the real problem is the psychological trauma from pounding the long, cold, bleak Cache Valley highways. In Smithfield I had fantasies of dropping down into town, getting a Big Mac and Fries, and then the bus home. I'm really fed up. At least Jan. and Feb. are over....writing this in my office with a down parka on that's how cold I got.

you stopped and called the dog owners? that's pretty funny. but you still got a good solid run in. if it is any consolation my run didn't go much better due to my foot killing me. hang in there. Now I am hungry for a big mac....

I think you are right - monster trucks and big macs after we get done with this lunacy!

Are you going to get your foot looked at? Congrats on the 60 mile week, especially with an injury!

yeah, I've got an appt with the sports orthopedist Wed. The problem is my feet- high rigid arches so I am unstable and I supinate, but no shoes are designed to correct for that. So I am going to look into orthotics to correct the problem.

Aside from that I don't know how much longer I can put up with running in Cache Valley anymore with the mentality of some of these drivers. BF canyon in the morning is a steady stream of huge trucks and snowmoblie trailers going up the canyon to hardware ranch. Most are courteous but a few let you know that if you aren't burning fossil fuels then you don't have the right to be on the road (or off it). The psychological wear and tear of this with no hearing is just beating me down.
