Well, the paella was good but the foot was quite sore. I probably walked about 5 miles yesterday, including some steepish hills. Today it feels better but it isn't runnable. It could be a stress fracture - I have had this before, a number of years ago, and so maybe running in the KSOs brought it out because there was a weakness there already.  The left foot is fine. I did edge into the KSOs relatively slowly (I thought) but maybe last week was just too big of a jump up in distance in them - but it was just so much fun.

what a bummer. well, you can join me on the disabled list. I think I have a stress fracture as well (still lingering from the March episode). when I get back in I think I will follow Liebermans advice carefully- start with a mile at a time in the FF and work up real slow. I hope they aren't what caused your problems, I really am hoping they will help.

Still no DH- absolute silence from above... well, what else is new?

off to Zion, will check in in a few days, Scott

How slowly did you "edge into the KSOs"? Just curious, as I plan on trying the same thing... Good luck healing.

Jason,

Well, for about three weeks I ran in them only every other day and confined it mainly to soft surfaces - grass or the beach. Distances at first were in the 4 mile range which I gradually increased to 9 but along the beach (this was when I was in the UK). Here in Spain the surfaces are a lot harder - about 1 mile of asphalt to the trail then the rest consists of a - hardish gravel road and then trails but trails which are fairly hard because it's so dry.

I haven't increased my weekly mileage that much - recently it had been running 35 - 40 but in conventional running shoes. The knee problems have gone away with the Five fingers and I think I got carried away and overdid it - I forgot that I'd had thus injury before and because things were going so well just pushed too much.

RedRooster got some advice from Dr. Lieberman (see above and his blog) which suggests taking things considerably more slowly than I did. But a lot probably depends on age, past injuries etc.

Today the foot feels quite a bit better but I suspect that I'll be out for at least a week....
